Abacus Glitchtrigger

The lead engineer for The Steelgrin Sirens, he takes care of their airship 'The Melancholy Dreamer' as well as keeping the Sirens properly geared through their adventures. Any and all upgrades and augmentations go through him before implementation. Despite being more at home within the inner workings of computer modules and cybernetics, he can be a capable pilot if one is needed.A scholar with a hobby in sharpshooting, his penchant for Allagan devices and machinery landed him a nice cozy position of company bosun. Interested in rebuilding lost technology, he's all for the wild experimentation that accompanies Allagan designs. Unfortunately, his single minded acquisition of knowledge can sometimes get him and his companions into dangerous situations.A rebel and individualist, he is not a fan of playing by the rules. Not interested in becoming anyone’s hero, he avoids conflict that does not involve him directly. Opting for a shoot first policy, should someone attempt harm, there is no dancing around polite discourse or unnecessary platitudes. Abacus never goes looking for a fight, but he will absolutely finish one... with a gun.

A Glitch in the System

"If'n ya can't do good... Do bad well."

༻✧༺ Antagonist/Villainous ༻✦༺ Mad Scientist ༻✧༺

A man who does his best to avoid any conversations of the past. There is little record of who he was, and no one alive who could claim to know his true name. Not a fan of nosy people, he rarely engages in more than 'small talk' and is quick to disengage from unwanted company, unless there is something to be gained. A familiarity with Abacus is rare, but those who understand him tend to pick up on his small quirks and odd mannerisms. Outside of his comfort zone he can be quick to agitate, but slow to show it.Currently he has taken up residence within the Steelgrin Sirens as their lead engineer. He is most comfortable in the lab, only relaxing when neck deep in his experiments. Happy to focus all his knowledge on upgrades to existing technology, he works tirelessly towards ever increasing improvements to his work. Often his experiments end up rather dangerous or unstable, but always prove to be highly effective.

༻✧༺ Let's make a deal ༻✦༺ Hooks ༻✧༺

✦Games of Chance: An avid gambler, he is always good for a game. He's very good at counting cards and cheating in ways that the common man can't catch. He has very deep pockets and quality trinkets to bet. Sometimes he'll let you leverage your word when the pot is too high. Offer him your word and a favor for later? You better expect the devil to come calling.✦Chaotic Genius: Always experimenting with new technology, he is an expert at gun and gunblade modifications. Not everything he does is stable, but in terms of destruction it is always highly effective. Inscribing spell runes into barrels, augmenting cartridges, and adding auxiliary tech is his specialty. If you need it, he probably has it.✧Mathematics Expert: He is highly skilled in arcanist geometries and the mathematics involved in spell weaving. Understanding the long form for reliable powerful spells, he knows trusted shortcuts for quick casting and rune stone etching. Mages are welcome to understand and question his methods. Ever seen a spellslinger using a gun as his focus? Now you have. Curious?✧Cybernetic Enthusiast: He has a keen interest in the structure and design of the various runes that are etched into Allagan and Alexandrian devices. Any knowledge to be gained or learned takes precedence over all other concerns. If you can teach him something, you'll have his undivided attention.

A short and spindly man, Abacus is in no way holding his own in a physical altercation without help. Bright pink hair with blue highlights ensures he stands out in a crowd, despite his stature. Ears constantly swiveling and his tail tip flicking to an unknown cadence, he looks every part the nervous and twitchy scholar. However, when engaged in conversation his singular focus reveals just how much he's paying attention.Dressed in casual wear, he usually has an ascot tied around his neck and a gun on his hip. Never without a set of earbuds stuck in his ears or headphones, they play loud music non-stop. You have a 50/50 chance that he isn't listening to a word you are saying.

Combat

Guns: A sharpshooter and deadeye, he is exceptional with his aim and quick draw. If there is one thing that must be said about his skills, is that he does not miss unless it's on purpose.Spellslinging: Skilled in arcanist geometric designs integral to spell weaving, he has worked tirelessly to integrate it into his guns. Manipulating sigils, he effects the elemental aether of each shot fired.

T'ashir Burwani

Ain't no one ah trust more...

Lover and bodyguard, this is a man that Abacus trusts implicitly. One of the only people that knows his past, and who will protect it with his life. Just how Abacus likes it.

Joules Roscoe

Never called another friend like him.

Joules was originally caught trying to steal the Melancholy Dreamer. For some reason Abacus decided not to shoot Joules, but instead hired him to work for the Sirens. Being skilled in piloting, Joules has proven himself a valuable part of the crew.

༻✦༺ ... ༻✧༺ ... ༻✦༺

Sloane Laisren

Ah good guard dog.

A man with potential with the chance to become one of Abacus's bodyguards. He can do his job with the skill and decisiveness needed in high stakes situations. The only question that remains: Can he be brought to heel.

༻✦༺ ... ༻✧༺ ... ༻✦༺

N’vhun Shunri

Cute lil' beau ready fer ah fight.

This viqo'te proved himself a valuable asset during a high stakes mission under Abacus's command. Considered part of Abacus's crew, he's more than earned himself a place at the table.

༻✦༺ ... ༻✧༺ ... ༻✦༺

Kjorn Djt-gilda

Broken, but ain't dead yet.

Finding that the viera is an amazing shot for just one eye, Abacus recruits him as guard duty more often than not. Kjorn does his job well, and Abacus trusts him enough not to shoot him in the back.

Engaging Storytelling

༻✦༺ ... ༻✧༺ ... ༻✦༺ ... ༻✧༺ ... ༻✦༺ ... ༻✧༺ ... ༻✦༺ ... ༻✧༺ ... ༻✦༺

Abacus is the sort of man selling the sinners the shovels to dig their own graves, and a reminder that the road to hell is paved with good intentions.✦ Power struggles: This character thrives off of the push and pull. You will get more out of him as an antagonist if you are willing to lose as much as you win. I will never make your character out to be a chump or incompetent, and my goal is to give your character a genuine struggle to work against.✦ Not a gotcha character: He isn’t a stupid villain, and if the heat gets too much he will vanish till things cool off. It is better when he is given a level of plausible deniability, because the guards are very good at their job. I'm not out to make them or anyone look incompetent.✦ White Knights: You won’t find his character very engaging or interesting. He will always take the path of least resistance. Abacus might have a sinister feel to him, but he's not a mustache twirling evil. Feel free to be uneasy or wary of him IC, but please refrain from using meta information to "know" what he's doing. I am always extremely forthcoming with information so my partners can write with me vs only reacting to me, so please don't abuse that trust.

Character Themes

✦ Lying, manipulation, and gaslighting: Abacus is designed as a liar and manipulator who will do and say what he needs to in order to achieve his goals. It can be incredibly difficult to tell what is a truth or a lie IC, but OOC I will always be upfront so you can properly engage.✧ Mathematics and magic: Arcanist are mathematicians at the end of the day. I adore technobable and you can expect that Abacus can and will talk extensively about the mechanics of magic. He will also go deep into the arithmetic if you really want him to get technical.✦ Science and morality: The concepts of 'Good and Evil' have no barring on Abacus's scientific goals. The idea of sacrificing others to seek knowledge is baked into his character. It takes a lot to change this view.✧ Antagonistic/Villainous: Abacus is very much in the business of causing others suffering, especially when it means he can achieve his goals. Dark and mature themes apply. This is a dead dove, friends. [Sexual assault is never on the table. I am completely uninterested and unwilling to entertain.]

Some Expectations

✦ If you are interested in a one and done sort of walk-up that's fine! I'm good at keeping interactions simple if needed, though I do like ending scenes with hooks for lead-ins for the future.✧ This character is easy to approach and interact with, but difficult to gain emotional attachment. He is written and built with this conflict in mind. Expect to put in effort if you want him to engage with your character on an emotional level.✦ He is a conflict character, but I refuse to force conflict for conflict's sake. He is polite, and will often choose the path of least resistance unless pressed. Conflict requires communication.✧ I maintain a certain level of plausible deniability with Abacus at all times. Lying is a major part of his character, so if this is hard to deal with in RP I fully understand. Protect yourself and cultivate your space.✦ Abacus is evil. He does vile shit. I am fully aware that this character is manipulative and he is designed with a lot of abusive tendencies, maladaptive behaviors, and poor coping mechanisms. His actions have reason behind them, but these are not excuses. I do not romanticize his behavior, and neither should you.

My Rules

✧ I am a DM for my free company, The Steelgrin Sirens and work a fulltime job to pay my bills. I love making contacts, but I am not available on a 24/7 basis. My time is important to me, and I do not give it out lightly. Your time is important to me, so I will not ask for it lightly.✦ Communication is important, so OOC chatter is always welcome and encouraged. I like my RP dark, but my OOC conversations are pretty light hearted and goofy.✧ I'm almost 40 and I'm not really comfortable roleplaying with folks too much younger than me, so 21+ is mandatory, but 25+ is preferred. Sorry kids.✦ I am not my character, and my character is not me. This goes especially considering the themes I'm playing with on this character. If you dislike them that's perfectly fine, but don't @ me about it unsolicited. Simply do not interact. Curate your own space, and protect yourself accordingly.I will not RP with underaged characters OR players. If you seek interaction you check the box that you are 21+, and should I find out otherwise? Blocked, no further contact. Respect my rule, and I'll respect you.✦ The themes I play with are not for kids, and require critical thinking skills to avoid being disrespectful or disgusting about it. Perpetual suffering and torture will break characters, and I will not be a part of character destruction.✧ If you've made it through everything, and you are interested in making a connection hop in my DMs and let me know what your favorite horror genre is! Lets start a conversation!
